Action Item list from the NSTC and encourages RC’s to check list for
applicability.
Section
- The Section One meeting is scheduled for January
9, 2007 at the AQMD, Diamond Bar
- Agenda item include the discussion of the 2007
NBOD nominations:

- A Call for New Section Conference Vendors –
there is a national Rewards Program where regions can make money securing
new vendors to attend the annual SAGM.
AD Juarez encouraged everyone to seek out new vendors.
Area
- Area Input Matrix – AD is beyond asking for the
basic required copies from selected regions. This is an area for improvement.
- AD
postponed the Area Director election until next month. AD Juarez term ends June 2008. The members of the Area Election
Commission are as follows:

- AD worked with the Hawthorne based California
Crusader newspaper to publish an article that Area 1-D Beach Cities received
the Area of the Year for the fourth time.
No other local papers would print anything about this
accomplishment.
- R17 RC Jamie Powers has been in the hospital
since the middle of December. The
doctors had to amputate 1/3 of his foot due to infection. He is currently waiting for a skin
graft. When that is done he will
be able to leave the hospital.
John Forsyth, friend of Jamie’s, asked the AD to announce that he
was accepting donations to help Jamie meet his financial obligations. His car had been impounded while he was
in the hospital.
- The Los Angeles World Airport is planning a
public hearing and RC Emmons has sent a form through an e-mail blast to
get Region 7 parents to respond to the Airport Commission and raise the
need for soccer fields.
- AD announced that from time to time he receives
requests for letters of recommendation or asked to complete forms from
former players. He stated that he
received one such letter for Erik Veach, who has applied to the Loa Angeles
Sheriffs. AD provided a copy of
his response to Area Board Member Bill Veach to give to Erik.

U16-U19
PROGRAM REPORT: – Daniel Juarez

U16-U19 Player Representative
meeting was held on December 14.
·
Feedback received from
the meeting will be assessed for implementation.
·
Highlights of the
meeting is as follows:
o Most player reps were appointed, not elected by the
team
o Referees need refresher courses
o Referees were better this year than last year
o Asked not have to play the same teams back to back
o Prefer more games
o Conditions for the upper divisions left a lot to be
desired and that the Del Aire Park field was the worst.
o Area 1-D Web page had good and updated information
o Some referees were biased
o Like the standings posted and the discipline matrix
used
o Complained about coaches not reporting the scores –
they wanted to know if the player reps could call in the scores
o Liked knowing up front what would happen if a player
received a card – appreciated the Rules & Regulations being on the web site
o Liked to see maps to the fields on the web site
o Wanted to complete coach evaluations
o Wanted playoff participation medals for the 5th
through 8th place teams
o Special award for those player reps who have been a
rep for throughout their U16-U10 tenure
o Player Rep Award - American Express gift cards
U10-U14 PROGRAM REPORT: – Daniel

- LEAGUE
- AD thanked all the area board members who
helped out for the first weekend of the League Tournament
- AD found holes in the system during the
process:
- Coaches without Safe Haven certification were removed
them from rosters signed by RC’s
- Lack of player medical releases thus excluding
a player from not participating
- Game cards did not match the rosters
- AD received a request for a U16 player to be a
coach. The Section One Coach
Administrator Paula Borstel stated that a coach or assistant coach must
be 18 years of age. No
exceptions.
- ALL STARS
o All Star rosters are due to by Friday, January 19,
2007.

o Coaches taking the Intermediate Coach Course must
provide a note. Please note that in
order to coach, the class participant must attend all classes.
o Coach Authorization Cards will be distributed will be
distributed at check-in and will be a different color.
o Region 17 made a proposal to man the Washington site
throughout the All Star tournament provided the other regions cover their other
obligations. AD will follow-up with an
answer.
o AD reminded the area staff they will need to man two
of the three fields (Aviation and Washington) while AD mans Anza. AD went over the Area Board Duty Schedule
and filled in spots.

Coach Class upcoming – January 18-20, 2007 in Manhattan Beach

- One late roster open from October 2006 - will
speak to Bart Cruz about it
- Completed several assessments during the area league
tournament
- Advance Referee course will be January 9, 11,
16, 18.
- Intermediate Referee course will be February 1,
6, 8.

Potties or getting access to the facilities at the adjoining school
- Cartoon character costumes (Sponge Bob and Elmo)
have been ordered
- Bubble Bee from Hometown Buffet will be in
attendance
- Water donated by Neslte Water
- Chocolate donated by QSP/World’s Finest
- Orange juice donated by Trader Joes
- Hawthorne Police Department stated they cannot bring
their dogs or horses because the fields are in the county. Ron Sipes, Asst. Area Director stated
he would support with calls to contacts at the County.
- AD invited TOPS and Kids n Sports Hugs &
Kids. Messages have been left for
both organizations.
SPRING LEAGUE REPORT: Bill Veach
- Deadline date for accepting spring applications
is February 17, 2007
- Coach and referee meeting is February 23, 2007
at the Dana Cafetorium
- Roster changes will be accepted until March 4
- Area will only accept one check from each region
for all their teams - checks due on February 23
- Discussed the Spring League Rules &
Regulations. They are posted on
the Area 1-D web site for everyone to download. In fact, it is strongly suggesting that everyone download a
copy to review.
COLLEGE ATHLETE PROGRAM (CAP) REPORT: Bill Veach
- Per Burt Haimes – CAP is dead, closed, done!
- Paula Borstel stated that the Coach Commission
is looking at something instead of CAP.
